Privacy Policy
Who we are
People Are Not Resources is a trading name of Feltic Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14451199), with its registered office at Russell Chambers, 61a North Street, Keighley, England, BD21 3DS.
Feltic Ltd is the “data controller” for the personal information described in this policy — this means we decide how and why your data is used, and we’re responsible for looking after it properly.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number ZB427937.

What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal data we collect through peoplearenotresources.org, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. It covers three areas of the site:
- Signing the pledge
- Sharing a story
- Signing up to our newsletter
We don’t collect personal data anywhere else on the site. If that changes, we’ll update this policy.
The pledge
When you sign the pledge, we ask for your name and email address so we can record your signature and, if you choose, include you in our public running total of people who’ve pledged.
We also ask, optionally, which country you’re in. This is entirely your choice to provide, and we use it only to understand how global the movement is becoming — for example, showing how many countries have pledged. We don’t use it to identify you individually or track your location beyond the country you select.
If you also tick the separate box to join our mailing list, see the Newsletter section below — that’s handled distinctly.
Why we do this: to keep an accurate record of who has signed, and because it’s the basis of the movement itself — a public, honest count of people standing behind the pledge. The optional country field helps us understand and share the movement’s global reach.
Legal basis: your consent, given when you submit the form.
Where this is stored: pledge submissions are stored in our website’s database (via the Fluent Forms plugin), hosted on our web server with Hostinger. We don’t send this information to any other company unless you’ve separately opted into the newsletter.
How long we keep it: indefinitely, as it forms the basis of our public pledge counter and the ongoing record of the movement. You can ask us to delete your pledge entry at any time — see Your rights, below.
Sharing a story
We invite people to share their own experiences of being treated like a person, or like a “resource,” at work.
What we ask for:
- Your story, in your own words
- How you’d like to be credited (for example, your name, a first name only, or “Anonymous” — this is entirely your choice)
- Optionally, your email address, which we only use to contact you about your submission — for example, to check details before we publish, or if we’d like to follow up with you about it
We deliberately don’t require your name or email address to submit a story. You can share anonymously.
Why we do this: stories are reviewed and published manually by us, so we sometimes need a way to reach you about your own submission before it goes live.
Legal basis: your consent, given when you submit the form.
Where this is stored: story submissions are stored in our website’s database, hosted with Hostinger. Once a story is approved, it’s published as a page on the site — using only the display name and story text you’ve agreed to, never your email address.
How long we keep it: we keep your email address (if provided) for as long as we might reasonably need to contact you about your submission, and delete it once that’s no longer needed. Published stories are kept as part of the site’s content until you ask us to remove or amend one.
Newsletter
If you’d like to hear more from us, you can opt in to our mailing list — either when signing the pledge or elsewhere on the site.
What we ask for: your name and email address.
How sign-up works: we use double opt-in. Ticking the box or submitting the sign-up form doesn’t add you to the list straight away — we first send you a confirmation email, and you’re only added once you click to confirm. This means nobody can be added to our mailing list without their own direct action.
Why we do this: to send you occasional updates from the movement — new stories, articles, and updates on the pledge.
Legal basis: your consent, confirmed through the double opt-in process described above.
Where this is stored and sent from: we manage our mailing list using FluentCRM, a plugin running on our own website (hosted with Hostinger). Emails themselves are sent through Brevo, a third-party email delivery service, who process your name and email address on our behalf strictly to deliver these emails. Brevo is based in France, within the European Economic Area, so this doesn’t involve a transfer of your data outside the UK/EEA.
Unsubscribing: every email includes an unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, we stop sending you emails and keep a minimal record (your email address and the date you unsubscribed) indefinitely. This isn’t to keep emailing you — quite the opposite: it’s how we make sure we never accidentally add you back to the list in future.
Keeping our list current: to avoid holding data longer than needed, we periodically review subscribers who haven’t engaged with our emails for an extended period, and may ask if you’d still like to hear from us, or remove you from the list if we don’t hear back.
Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses Google Fonts, a service provided by Google, to display certain text styling (including the typeface used in our live pledge counter). Loading these fonts involves your device connecting directly to Google’s servers, which may process your IP address as part of that request. This may involve a transfer of data outside the UK.
We don’t currently run analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies on this site beyond what our hosting provider, Hostinger, may use as standard for security and performance purposes in operating the server. We’ll update this section if that changes.
Who we share your data with
We use the following organisations to help us run the site and communicate with you. Each only processes your data on our instructions, for the purposes described in this policy:
- Hostinger — our web hosting provider, which stores the website and its databases (pledge and story submissions).
- Brevo — our email delivery provider, used to send newsletter emails to confirmed subscribers.
- Google — provides the web font used in parts of our site design.
We don’t sell, rent, or otherwise share your personal data with any other third party, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct any inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erase your data (“the right to be forgotten”)
- Restrict how we use your data
- Object to us using your data
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we’re relying on consent (for example, unsubscribing from the newsletter, or asking us to remove a pledge signature or story)
- Data portability — receive a copy of your data in a portable format

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
This website and movement are aimed at adults in the workplace. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children, and no part of the site is designed to appeal to or target under-18s.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if we change how we collect data, or add new features to the site. We’ll update the date at the top of this page when we do. If the changes are significant, we’ll make that clear on the site.
